It's February! February is the month for Valentines and here at School Island, we love our family members along with their incredible suggestions. Thanks to you, School Island continues to be the best study and review experience around! In this month's newsletter, we feature a little known, but valuable resource - School Island Documentation. Also this month, we keep you informed of upcoming conferences and provide answers to your most frequently asked questions. School Island Documentation A valuable, but often overlooked resource is School Island documentation. Accessible from the Documents link on the Teacher and Administrator Home pages, the Documents page includes information for Administrators, Teachers, and Students. All may be viewed, printed, and saved to your computer. Take note though that many of these documents are in PDF format so you will need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader software to open these documents if you have not done so already. Documentation includes:
Upcoming Conferences The School Island team, along with its newest members - NC Territory Manager, Paul Andrews and Training Specialist, Jim Abraham - will be participating in the Annual NC Accountability Conference from February 14-16. This 2 ½ day conference will be held at the Koury Center in Greensboro, NC. Educators who are deeply committed to improving Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) achievement and addressing No Child Left Behind (NCLB) standards are encouraged to visit Paul and Jim to learn more about School Island and how they can help NOW. This conference is a great forum for meeting with peers, sharing ideas, and learning how School Island can be used as a primary resource and strategy for achieving your goals. Educators from other states are encouraged to contact Prof. Bill to discuss your state’s and your school’s AYP needs. From Our Mailbag Question I would like my students to be able to get some credit for questions answered correctly on the second try. Is this possible to set that up? Response School Island does indeed give students the opportunity to retry a question. The Quick Results report will give you the score as well as the score-with-retry. You can use this information to decide whether to give the student some extra credit for his/her efforts. To access the Quick Results Report:
Clarification In the January 2007 issue, we ran an article on how to include equations and formulas from Microsoft's Equation Editor or Math Type into Personal Content Sets. Many thanks to Kathleen Sipher, a retired Math teacher from Potsdam High School, who suggested the following shortcut: "I just read your explanation of how to include Math Type Equations in School Island questions. Actually, it is a little easier to do than you suggested. From within Math Type, type the equation. Go to the File menu and select Save As, making sure that the file type .gif is selected (mine is by default). Then save the file on the hard drive. There is no need to use Microsoft Word whatsoever! We love to hear from you!If you have any comments, ideas for future articles, or suggestions for a School Island product feature or enhancement, please send it to support@schoolisland.com. We would love to hear from you! |
